Healing and recovery
How your HP, Mana and Energy come back after a fight - on their own, with items, at a healing crystal - and where wounds fit in.
For playersFights use up your HP, Mana and Energy. This guide covers every way they come back. Wounds, the lasting injuries you can take when you go down, are covered in Wounds and getting patched up.
On their own
Out of a fight, your bars fill up by themselves every few minutes (every 5 by default), as long as you’re wearing the HUD:
| Bar | Each time |
|---|---|
| HP | 1, or a 33rd of your max HP if that’s more. A character with 99 max HP gets 3 |
| Energy | 1 |
| Mana | 1, or on some sims a share that fills it from empty to full in a set time, such as 2 hours |
Nothing comes back during a fight, while you’re offline or for a disabled character. Your sim can change the amounts, so ask your staff if yours seem different.
When a fight ends, any Energy set aside for it comes back at once. See After a fight.
Healing items
Food, potions and other healing items are under Use in your inventory. They restore HP, or Mana for a mana potion, up to your max.
- Out of a fight they cost nothing but the item.
- In a fight, press Use item on your turn, then Use next to yourself or whoever you’re healing. If your sim uses consumable rules, it costs Energy (2 unless your sim changes it), they must be near you, and your turn goes on. Otherwise using an item ends your turn. See Your turn.
- If your sim limits them, too many healing items in one fight hurt you and weaken healing for the rest of it.
- Healing items don’t remove a wound, and neither do items that clear debuffs.
See Your inventory.
Healing crystals
Some sims have healing crystals in-world. Touching one heals you to full HP.
- Stand within 5 metres of it, wearing your HUD.
- You must be in character, and not in a fight.
- Each character can use a crystal once every 6 hours. Touch one too soon and it tells you how long to wait.
- Afterwards you carry a 30-minute after-effect, shown on your titler. What it does depends on your sim.
Healing from others
Characters with healing abilities can heal you in a fight on their turn, and some abilities heal a little each turn for a few turns. Out of a fight, a healer or your sim’s medical machine treats wounds rather than HP: see Wounds and getting patched up.
Wounds and your max HP
A wound can hold your max HP down until it heals, so your HP only fills up to that lower max. Treat the wound, or wait for it to heal, to get your full max back. Your HUD’s Status page shows your wounds and how long each has left.
