Black BoxGet the HUD

Your first sign-in

What happens the first time you wear the HUD, from your new account to accepting the Terms of Service.

For players

The first time you wear the HUD, it sets up your account and asks you to accept the Terms of Service. This takes a minute, and you only do it once.

Your account is made for you

There is no sign-up form. When the HUD connects, the server makes your account from your avatar: it uses your Second Life name and your avatar’s key. Every time you wear the HUD after that, it signs you in to the same account.

The login message

When you’re signed in, the HUD posts a message in local chat that only you can see. It has:

  • “You are logged in” and your username.
  • Your sim’s message of the day, if your sim has one.
  • Your command channel and your emotes channel.
  • A reminder that @help on your command channel gives you help and links.

Note the two channel numbers. You type chat commands on the command channel. For example, if the message says Command channel: 6, you type /6 @help. See Chat commands for the full list.

The Terms of Service

Before you can use the HUD, you accept the Terms of Service. The HUD opens on a page called Terms of Service, and chat shows links to the HUD User agreement and Privacy Policy, and to your sim’s rules.

  1. Click the links in chat and read them.
  2. On the HUD, tick I have read and agree to the Terms of Service.
  3. Press Accept. It only works once the box is ticked.

Chat says “You have accepted the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.” and the HUD reloads.

If you’d rather use chat

You can accept from chat instead. Type @tos accept on your command channel. Chat confirms it and the HUD reloads its screen after a moment.

Two other forms help too:

  • @tos shows the links to the terms again.
  • @tos status tells you whether you’ve accepted.

If you press Decline

Pressing Decline tells chat that the HUD won’t work until you accept. Nothing else happens, and you can change your mind any time: tick the box and press Accept, or type @tos accept.

Until you accept, most chat commands answer “You must accept the Terms of Service before using commands.” @tos, @help and @relog still work.

What comes next

Once you’ve accepted, the HUD checks whether you have a character. If you don’t, it takes you to the character creator, or, if your sim makes characters on its website, it gives you a link in chat to do that there.

Carry on with Create a character.
