Money and trade
How money works on your sim, how to pay people, what's on the Trade page and how the bank works.
For playersHow you carry money depends on your sim. Most trading happens on the Trade page.
Your money
Your sim uses one of two kinds of money:
- A single currency, such as credits. Money is an item in your inventory, and the money counter on Home, if your sim shows it, says how much you carry.
- A purse of coins, in several kinds. Purse on Home, if your sim shows it, lists each coin and how many you have.
On some sims, new characters can’t pay or give coin away until they reach a set level.
Pay someone
On a sim with coins:
- Press Trade, then Pay. Everyone within 10 metres with their HUD on is listed.
- Press Pay next to the person.
- Use + and - to pick how many of each coin to hand over, then press Confirm.
If you carry a bank card, Pay with lets you choose Coins from your purse or a card. With a card, enter the Amount and press Pay by card. The money goes into their bank account.
You can also pay by chat command on your command channel: @coins pay followed by the person’s Second Life username, the amount and the coin’s name. @coins pouch lists your coins in chat for you alone. See Chat commands.
On a sim with a single currency there is no Pay button. Hand money over with Gift, the same as any item.
The Trade page
Press Trade on Home. You see:
- Player: people within 10 metres. Gift gives them items and Use uses an item on them. See Your inventory.
- Vendor: shops near you, to buy from and sell to. See Buying and selling.
- Crafter: crafting stations near you. See Crafting.
- Bank: banks, storage and ATMs near you. Storage is covered in Crafting.
- Pay, on coin sims.
These appear only if your sim uses them. Each is covered in Buying and selling:
- Auction house: bid on items, or list your own for 1, 3 or 7 days.
- Crafting orders: order something crafted, or make one for pay.
- My stalls: on coin sims, for whoever runs a player or faction stall.
- Pickpocket: on coin sims, try the purse of someone close by, once a day each.
- Community project: give items or coin towards a shared goal, for perks.
The bank
If your sim has a bank, your character can keep money in an account and pay by bank card or transfer. Open it with Bank on Home, with Use ATM at an ATM (Trade, then Bank), or on your sim’s website. See The bank.
