Buying and selling
How to buy from and sell to shops, shop on the website, use the auction house, crafting orders and stalls, pick pockets and give to community projects.
For playersBeyond handing things over in person, your sim can have several markets, mostly on the HUD’s Trade page. Each is a per-sim choice. If a button is missing, your sim doesn’t use that part.
| Way to sell | Who pays you | When | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shop (Vendor, Sell) | The shop, at its price | At once | Nothing |
| Auction house | The highest bidder | When it ends | A listing fee and a sale fee |
| Crafting orders | Whoever posted the order | When you deliver | A share of the payment |
| Your stall | Any shopper, at your price | At each sale | Weekly rent and a fee on each sale |
Shops
Buy
- Press Trade, then Vendor. A shop that’s too far away shows its distance and can’t be used.
- Press Buy and pick items with + and -. The Amount column shows how many you picked and how many the shop has.
- If you carry a bank card, choose What you carry or a card under Pay with. See The bank.
- Press Purchase.
- On a coin sim, a shop in a faction’s territory may add the faction’s trade tax. Chat says how much.
- On a one-currency sim, some things are priced in other items. A card only pays the currency part.
Sell
Press Sell next to the shop. It lists what the shop buys and how many you carry. Pick items with + and -, then press Sell. Items bound to you can’t be sold.
On a coin sim with a weekly buyback limit, shops pay each account up to a set amount a week, shared by all your characters. The Sell page shows what’s left. A sale worth more than that is refused whole, so sell less. Once it’s used up, shops won’t buy from you until Monday, server time.
Restock and prices
Limited stock fills back up when your sim’s restock runs, with a chance for each item. Selling to a shop doesn’t add to its stock. If your sim runs its economy stabiliser, shop prices, buyback prices and the market fees below can change from week to week.
The Item store
On your sim’s website, Item store lists every shop, what it sells (For sale) or buys (Vendors buy), prices and stock.
- Press Add on items from a shop marked Sells online. Online only hides other shops.
- In the Cart, choose Pay with if you carry a card.
- Press Buy from and the shop’s name.
Purchases go to your active character, with no distance limit. You can’t sell on the website.
The auction house
Trade, then Auction house. If you carry a bank card, Pay with is at the top.
Bid or buy
- On Browse, use Search items and press a listing. You see the top bid, any buyout, the time left and 30 days of sales by quality.
- Type Your bid, at least the amount shown, and press Bid. Or press Buy for to pay the buyout and win now.
- A bid is paid when you place it. If you’re outbid, it comes back the way you paid, and the HUD tells you.
- Each bid must beat the top one by a step your sim sets. A bid at or over the buyout buys it out.
- You can’t bid on your own account’s listings, or outbid yourself.
- If you win, the item goes into your inventory when the auction ends.
Sell
- On Sell, pick an Item, and How many for a stack. Worn and bound items can’t be sold.
- Set a Starting bid and, if you like, a Buyout of at least that.
- Under Runs for, pick 1, 3 or 7 days.
- Read the fee line and press List it.
- The listing fee is a share of the starting bid, with a minimum. It’s paid now and kept even if nothing sells.
- The auction house holds the item. Your account can have only so many listings open; Mine shows the count.
- If it sells, you get the price less the sale fee, and any faction trade tax, in what you carry. If nobody bids, the item comes back. The HUD tells you either way, if you’re on the sim.
- Cancel listing works only while nobody has bid. You get the item back, not the fee.
Crafting orders
Trade, then Crafting orders.
Post an order
- On Order something, search under What do you want made? Each result shows who can make it and a reference value.
- Set How many, and the Lowest quality for one-of-a-kind items.
- Set the Payment and Pay with, and pick how long it’s Open for.
- Press Post the order.
The payment and a posting fee are taken now. Cancel order works while no crafter holds it, and the payment goes back the way you paid, as it does if the order runs out. The posting fee is kept.
Fill an order
- On Board, turn on Only what I can make if you like, and press an order.
- Take it holds it for some hours, so nobody else can deliver. You need the profession level shown. Let it go frees it.
- Press Deliver. A stack needs the full amount. For one-of-a-kind items, pick copies at or above the lowest quality, not worn or bound. A copy with no quality counts as Common.
You can also deliver without taking it, if nobody holds it. The goods go to whoever ordered them, and you get the payment less a fee, in what you carry. You can’t fill your own account’s orders.
Stalls
On a coin sim, staff can make a shop into a stall for a character or a faction. A faction’s leaders run its stall. My stalls appears on Trade once you run one.
Rent
- A new stall is closed. Open it pays a week’s rent, and Pay another week pays ahead, up to a limit.
- Rent comes from your purse, or the faction’s bank account.
- With Auto-renew: on, the next week is paid when the time runs out. If it’s off or can’t be paid, the stall closes and the HUD tells you. Your listings stay held.
Stock
- Under Put something up for sale, pick an Item and How many.
- Set the price and press Put on sale.
- You can stock a closed stall, up to a set number of listings.
- Take back returns what hasn’t sold.
- Each sale keeps a fee and any faction trade tax. The rest goes to your purse, or the faction’s account. Recent sales shows this week’s takings.
Shop at a stall
Under Trade, Vendor, a stall shows its owner and Browse. Pick a listing, set How many and press Buy for. You pay from your purse. Open stalls are on the Item store too.
Pickpocketing
On a coin sim, Trade, then Pickpocket lists people close enough. Look around checks again.
- If your sim asks for it, emote near your mark first. The page says how recently.
- Press Try their purse.
- Your account can try each character once a day, server time. Every try counts, and they then show “tried today”.
- Neither of you can be in a fight.
- You roll 3d6 plus your Agility against a target number plus their Spirit.
- A success takes a few coins, up to a limit and never more than they carry. On some sims your mark loses nothing and the game makes the coins.
- If your sim locks coin for new characters, they can’t be robbed.
Before you try: A failure warns your mark that they felt a hand. Miss by enough, and they see your name.
Community projects
Trade, then Community project. Each project shows its time left, progress, goals and milestones, where everyone gets a perk for some hours. Perks in force lists what’s active.
- Press Give on a goal.
- Type an amount, or pick copies. The plainest come first.
- Press Give.
- Gifts are used up. Only what a goal still needs is taken.
- A project tied to a region only takes gifts there.
- If your account’s gifts reach a set value, you earn a perk of your own.
- Perks boost crafting rolls, gathering or Work Hours, if your sim uses those.
- A project finishes when every goal is met, or ends at its deadline. Only milestones reached count.
When the economy is paused
While staff have paused the economy, the HUD refuses buying, selling, bids, listings, orders, stall sales and gifts. Auctions and orders that run out wait until it reopens.
