Crafting and gathering

How to craft at a station, gather materials from nodes, and keep items in banks and shared storage.

For players

You make things at crafting stations around your sim, and gather materials from nodes. Your sim decides what can be made and where.

Open a station

  1. Stand near a crafting station.
  2. Press Trade, then Crafter. The stations in your region are listed. One that’s too far away shows its distance.
  3. Press Craft next to the station.

Pick a recipe

The list shows what you can make right now, with how many, such as ×3. Turn on Show All to see every recipe at this station, including ones you lack the materials for. Search… and Category narrow the list.

Press a recipe to see what it NEEDS and what it MAKES. Press one for its description. A result with a percentage, such as 25%, is a chance and may not come out.

If an ingredient is a one-of-a-kind item, pick which copy to use from the list under the recipe.

  1. If you can make more than one, use - and + to choose how many.
  2. Press Craft, or Craft 3 and so on.

If you’re short of something, the HUD says “You don’t have what it needs.”

The queue and timers

  • The materials are taken as soon as you press Craft, and chat tells you how long the job will take.
  • You can usually have one craft job at a time.
  • If the station is busy, your job waits in its queue and starts on its own.
  • The timer keeps running if you log off. When it’s done, the items go into your inventory.
  • Some stations need power, and some pause unless someone stays near them.

Requirements and chances

  • A recipe can need a profession at a certain level. If your sim uses profession rules, see yours under Settings, then Professions.
  • An attempt can fail. A failed attempt makes nothing, and its materials are gone. Some stations give a better chance than others.

If your sim uses the crafting roll, a recipe also shows its tier, the DC and your 3d6 roll bonus, with the odds of each result from Masterwork down to Ruined. Care spends extra hours for a bigger bonus, and a Rare component adds one too. Some tiers need a rare component for a Masterwork. A ruined attempt may give some materials back.

If your sim uses Work Hours, each recipe shows the Work Hours it takes and how many you have left. Some stations also have Enchant and Signature buttons.

Gather from nodes

Nodes are objects in the world you can harvest, such as ore or plants.

  1. Go In character and wear your HUD.
  2. Stand within 5 metres of the node and touch it.
  3. Chat tells you what you found, or that you found nothing this time.

Each try uses one of your gathering attempts for the day, even when you find nothing. The Gathering counter on Home shows how many you have left, if your sim shows it. When you run out, you’re too tired to work until they refill. On a sim with Work Hours, a try costs Work Hours instead.

Some nodes need a tool. Carry it, worn or not, and it isn’t used up. Chat tells you which tool you’re missing.

Your sim may also use:

  • Node limits: each node gives your account a few tries a day, shared by all your characters.
  • The gathering roll: a node needs a gathering skill and a tool for it, and you roll 3d6 to see how much you get. A harvested node rests for a while before it can be worked again.

Banks and shared storage

Press Trade, then Bank, to see the banks and storage containers near you.

  • Deposit: pick items with + and -, then press Deposit.
  • Withdraw: the same, the other way.
  • List: lists what’s inside in chat, for you alone.

A bank keeps your own items, apart from everyone else’s. A storage container is shared, and staff or a group’s leaders decide who can look in, put things in and take them out. An ATM in this list belongs to the money bank, covered in Money and trade.

You can also deposit and withdraw by chat command. See Chat commands.
