Setting up your sim
A map of the staff side of your sim's website, what each menu area is for, and who gets to see it.
For staffYour sim’s website, the panel, is where you and your team build the game and run it. This page is a map of the staff menu.
To get in, press Web Login in the HUD’s Settings, or go to your sim’s website and sign in. The menu on the left only shows the areas your role opens, and Super Admins can rename and move entries, so yours may differ a little.
Areas players see too
- Main Menu: what every player has, such as character sheets, events, awards and reports.
- Faction Leaders: for players who lead a group. They manage its members, container permissions and faction tax, and see its vendor sales and container activity.
Game Design
The rules and content of your game:
- Characters: classes, races, professions, perks, stats, base and starting values, skills and levels.
- Abilities: abilities and the formulas they roll.
- Combat & effects: game systems, effects, timed effects, wounds and the effect reference. See Rule sets and options.
- Economy: items and item attributes, vendors and their item lists, coins, the auction house, crafting orders, player stalls and the economy stabiliser.
- Crafting & loot: recipes and recipe groups, crafting stations, breakdown, the craft queue and loot nodes.
- Quests & NPCs: quests, the story map, quest NPCs and objects, quest triggers, quest progress, NPCs and the NPC generator.
World Building
The in-world objects the system runs, such as doors, lights, alarms, power panels, generators and crafting tables. Objects lists them, and the rest of this area covers Zones, the Power grid, Bulk edit, Macros, Setup, Lighting presets, Alarm presets and Lawful zones.
Storytellers
Tools for running scenes as they happen:
- Party control: every fight going on, and the controls to run one, with its NPCs.
- Lighting control: the lights, switches and power in a zone, to switch on and off as a scene needs.
- Alarms: set alarms off.
- Weather & environment: send a Second Life environment to someone or everyone online, or set a sim’s default.
- Sound board: play a sound through players’ HUDs.
- Community projects: set up shared goals for players to give towards.
Moderation
Keeping the sim safe: Radar (who’s here now and who left lately), Radar search, Bans, Sim stats and RP hot spots.
Staff
- Players: accounts, characters, player tools and the XP leaderboard.
- Groups: groups, their ranks and members. A group also holds its HUD theme, game system and stipends.
- Premade operations: saved sets of steps you apply to a character in one go.
- Access: who has which role, faction leaders, what each role allows, and the menu itself.
- Sim: containers, and Assets & delivery for the HUD and other items the system hands out.
Server
- Settings: the sim’s global settings, with tabs for HUD themes, Reports & awards, Translations and more.
- HUD settings: the HUD’s buttons, bars, counters, colours and layout. See The HUD look.
- Discord: which Discord channels get the system’s alerts, and who gets mentioned.
- Panic buttons: two emergency switches. Pause the economy stops trading, vendors, crafting, banks and item sources for every player. Turn the server off puts every player’s HUD on an offline screen and stops chat commands. Staff with the permission keep their HUD. Everyone on the sim is told, with the reason you give.
Auth Keys, Cron, Debug and Patches are here too, for the people who run the server.
Logs records what happens, from experience and trades to bans and panel activity.
Staff web roles
A role is a set of permissions, and someone sees the menu areas their permissions open. A new sim comes with these roles:
- Super Admin: everything, including changing roles and the menu.
- Admin: general web admin.
- Storyteller: the narrative tools.
- Game Master: editing the sim’s core mechanics.
- Processor: reviewing and processing applications, such as character sheets.
- Moderator: enforcing the rules in-game, with warnings, kicks and bans.
- Demo: sees the whole panel and can change nothing.
Under Staff, then Access:
- Permissions looks a person up, shows every permission they have and where it comes from, and lets you give or take roles as far as your own role allows.
- Faction leaders sets who leads which group.
- Roles and Menu, for Super Admins, change what each role allows and rename, move or hide menu entries.
